Just got my computer and only recently got bitten by geneology bug. I live in toronto Canada and have only just received some info which might be of interest.Hodnetts built a castle in Cork (Belvelly?) and ultimately changed the name to macsherry. The usual differencesdevelopedover "misappropriated"' cattle and the hodnetts were eliminated by the "war" with the barrymores. At some time during the hodnett tenure at the castle, it was apparently rented to Sir Walter Raleigh.
leaping ahead to recent times I understand that my grandfather's father(William Hodnett)left Watford England for California and did well enough in the Gold fields to send for his family. When they arrived in New York, threy were met by a friend telling them of his death (suspicious??) The family returned to England .My grandfather Thomas William Hodnett married a Louise Martindale, had 5 children (Wilfred,Harold,Muriel,Thomas Herbert(m father) and Eric (called Dick for some reason). The family returned to Canada, settling in Toronto.
If anyone is interested in more info I will be glad to supply whatever further details I have.
I would also like to hear from anyone who has any information about our family tree.
