Re: JOHN BARON HOFF, Captain., USAF - F-16 Fighter Pilot
John Baron Hoff in August 2013 accepted a military transfer and reassignment from the Iowa Air National Guard, 132nd Fighter Wing, Des Moines Municipal Airport, DSM, IA, to the USAF Reserves (because of "mission realignment " for that unit, which was converted into a "Drone Management " unit, and all of the unit's F-16 aircraft were transferred to other organizations). In July 2013, Hoff interviewed and was hired by the "Mako" F-16 AFRES unit at Homestead Air Reserve Base, Homestead, FL.Hoff was then promoted to the rank of Captain, and serves as a line pilot, flying the Viper F-16C single-seat model fighter aircraft. In September, Capt. Hoff left full-time Extended Active Duty for Training (ADT) in the USAF, the Air National Guard, & the AFRES, and returned full-time to his civilian piloting job for American Eagle Airlines, where he had flown for them 18 months before being selected by the USAF & the ANG for a commission as a 2/Lt., and USAF Pilot Training. He had been granted a 4 1/2 years of "Military Leave of Absence" from American Eagle Airlines to pursue his military flight training. He had previously served as a First Officer (Second in Command) of an Embraer ERJ 145 twin turbine Regional Commuter Jet, Chicago based, beforehis full-time military training leading to his eventual certification as being fully "Combat Mission Ready" in the F-16 aircraft. In September 2013, after leading Active Duty,he re-entered the American / American Eagle Flight Tng. Facility at DFW.There he was given a 2 month de novo retraining in the ERJ 145 aircraft.Having already accumulated over the required 1,500 hours of total flight time, he earned an FAA Airline Transport Pilot's license (ATP), the highest License that the FAA can give, as well as a specific Type Rating in the ERJ 145 model aircraft. After the retraining, he returned full-time with American Eagle in late October 2013, rebasing at the Miami (MIA) Int'l.Airport, FL.He will also fly part-time in the active USAF Reserves, flying the F-16 Viper fighter jet in the F-16 Mako Reserve unit at Homestead ARB, FL.
While with the Iowa ANG, Hoff flew his F-16 in a flight of four in the 2012 Chicago Lake Front Water & Air Show.
On December 7, 2012, he and Ashley Knight Hoff gave birth to a baby daughter, JUDE ALEXANDRA HOFF, born in Des Moines, IA.
He & his family now reside in the city of Homestead, FL.
