If you are referring to the Rev. War soldier who served in the 9th battalion Lancaster Co. Militia you will find that there is a Sons of the American Revolution, Pennsylvania Society approved membership for Russell John Frees, dated Nov. 3, 1958.
The only problem is that the information he supplies covers a Phillip Hoffman who lived in Mt. Bethel and was married to Mercy.
the problem is that while the service listed in Lancaster Co covers the period 1778-1782. the man in Mt. Bethel was active during that time according to a number of records.
1. Dec. 28, 1779 Phillip Hoffman purchased land in Mt Bethel, Northampton Co., PA
2. Jan/Feb 1780 - Phillip Hoffman is on a tax list in Mt. Bethel
3.Aug. 31, 1780 - Phillip Hoffman is a farmer in Mt. Bethel tax list.
4. 1782 - Phillip Hoffamn is a farmer in Mt. Bethel
5. 1785 - Philip Hoffman has 400 acres in Mt. Bethel.
Obviously, there are two different Phillip Hoffman men, one in Lancaster Co and a secong in Mt. Bethel, Northampton Co., PA. There is somedistace between these two locations.
Cordially,
Bruce McEwen
