Re: Mississippi Hoggatt's
Thank you so much for your reply, I appreciate it.
I wonder what generation this may be.There is a problem when brothers name sons with the same names as their brothers. These names pop up in various places and I have no way to know which James Hoggatt is the one I want info. on.
I'm looking for more info. (birthdate, birthplace, parents, etc.) on the James Hogatt who was the father of William Shelton Hoggatt (my great-grandfather).All I know is this James Hoggatt had a brother named Wilford - and 5 sons named:
Wilford, William Shelton, Washington, James, & John.
The sons were all born in Texas and moved to Louisiana with their mother (who didn't live long after that), and were raised by relatives. The wife of this James Hoggatt was Caroline Starnes.
I'm thinking (speculating) that this James Hoggatt lived in the Natchez area before moving to Texas. It's hard to figure out if any info. I find on James Hoggatt in Natchez if the one I want.
I have come across mention of a Wilford and a James Hoggatt in the Natchez area in relation to horse racing at a place called Pharsalia in a book called _Antebellum Natchez_.This was in the early 1830s and the James Hoggatt I'm looking for was married ca. 1830, so could be the right generation.
If you come up with anything that might relate to the above, please let me know.
Re:> I have some family notes from my father of William and a possible brother James Hoggatt. William stayed in the Kansas area while it is believed that James went to the Natchez County Miss area. Records of a Col or Capt James Hoggatt who owned the Travlers Rest Plantation.
