Two different Abraham Hokes
I have recently been looking into my Hoke ancestors and have received some good information. However, the root of the family at this point is one Abraham Hoke (b. 1802). I have nothing earlier – and I believe some of the information I have received about this individual just doesn’t look right, so I’m hoping for some help.
As it stands, my information currently reads that Abraham Hoke was born about 1802 in Maryland, married Mary Elizabeth Cherry about 1836, and died in the Civil War in Bolivar TN in 1863. This is where things seem wrong to me – I believe there was another Abraham Hoke who was much younger (b. 1840's), and was actually the one who died at Bolivar. In other words, I believe that someone has intermingled the two Abrahams.
Does anyone have any data to support this theory? Ideally, I’m hoping that someone might have more information about “my” Abraham Hoke, as described above (with a probably incorrect place and date of death). While I have a fairly complete accounting of his descendants, I do need his ancestry.
