Re: THE HOLCOMB BOOK OF 1947
My wife is a Holcombe and I have spent many years researching the Holcombe line, so I am very familiar with the "Holcombe Book". However, it has been rejected by most of the genealogical societies and organizations as documentary proof of lineage due to the number of errors thoughout the book. It is readliy available from Brent H. Holcombe of SC, a certified geneaologist and prolific writer and from many on line book sellers. The in hard copy sells for $175.00 but it is also available on CD for much less. The book is a great starting point and it is where I began my travels. The Holcombe line is an old, very honored and extremely interesting to put it mildly. A sample: Lucy Pettway Holcombe was the wife of Francis Wilkinson Pickens, the Governor of SC at the beginning of theCivil War. Lucy also formed and paid for the "Holcombe Legion" a fighting unit of the CSA forces. Lucy was also the only woman ever to appear on Confederate currency, the $100.00 bill. It will take time to throughly research your lines but it will certainly be well worth every minute you spend. Good luck in you searches.
