Re: HOULDCRAFTS: Monaghan, Ireland
I'm just begginning to look for Holdcraft's in Ireland, specifically Keogh's Cross, County Louth, Ireland. Is Monaghan in or near County Louth? My Great Great Great Great Grandfather, Captain John Holdcraft, served in the English Army in Ireland during the Irish Revolution of 1798 and settled at Keogh's Cross, near Richardstown, County Louth, Ireland after the Revolution. Some of his descendents supposedly still occupy a stone home he erected there in 1801.He was originally from a family of Holdcraft's in Lancashire, England, and the Queen gave him land in Ireland after they (The English)defeated the Irish in that Revolution. He was of the Protestant faith and very unpopular in the Catholic neighborhood there in Ireland. Four of his sons did not like their unpopular status there in Ireland and decided to migrate to America in the early 1800s.The four sons who migrated were: Henry Holdcraft, Bernard Holdcraft, James Holdcraft, and George Holdcraft.I'm a descendant of John Holdcraft through George Holdcraft. If you have any info on Holdcraft's in or near County Louth, I would appreciate the info.Thanks.
