Can you help?

My grandfather was Frank Holding who was born in Greenwich London.I know he had 2 brothers who died in the first world war and his mother was from Jersey. I am trying to get some or any information on his father William H Holding who was from Bolton Lancashire. I only know this from my grandfathers birth certificate.He must have been born around 1868 and died sometime between 1901 and 1916. He is labelled as deceased on my uncles commonwealth war grave certificate.I don't know where to start looking. My father is Malcolm Holding living in Wales and he has a brother Ian living in Australia. Can anyone help?
