Are Holdredge and Hildredge possibly related?
Surnames like ours are often misspelled in many different ways. For this reason, could it be possible that Holdred and Hildred share a common ancestor?
My ancestor Richard Hildreth settled in Massachusetts, and became a freeman in 1643.How he came to America from England is still a mystery.
In the same year a Thomas Hildreth settled in Long Island.Yet our family never knew if Thomas and Richard were definitely related.
Most of their descendants have been genealogically recorded. In that time, many records have sometimes proven that the Hildreth name was sometimes misspelled Holdridge among many other misspellings.
A DNA test taken by over two dozen Hildreths have proven that Richard and Thomas Hildreth share a common ancestor with both American and English Hildreth cousins living today.A relationship that could make them brothers or at least close cousins.
Please contact me if any Holdredge men would be interested in proving if Hildreths living today might be related to them.Or contact me if you are interested in genetic ancestry.I'll share what information I have.
