Camden, SC Hood families in 1700s
The 1780-1781 muster lists of Maj. John Harrison's loyalists, called SC Rangers (based in the Camden, SC area) included a Nathaniel Hood.Does anyone know who this man was?
I descend from a Nathaniel Hood, son of Robert Hood and Elizabeth ____, who were in Greeneville, Greene Co. NC (which became TN) by 1783. Nathaniel's brother, John Bain Hood, was a newspaper printer/editor/publisher, and he ran a Camden, SC newspaper in 1803 before moving to Lincoln Co. NC and then to TN.
My Nathaniel was certainly old enough to be the man who fought with Harrison's loyalists. Was he really my Nathaniel? I have often wondered just how John Bain Hood ended up in Camden, SC and if he stayed behind as an apprentice when the rest of the family moved to TN, which seems the only logical explanation for such a young man (b. ca 1776) to be so far away from his parents. Now this new connection to the Camden, SC area offers an exciting new avenue of research.
I appreciate any help on this.
