Results of the Search for Mary Edge and Samuel Horton of GA and AL
This is submitted with hopes of connecting with others who may contribute any corrections or more information to their story.From various postings on Anc.com and Genforum I began thesearch on this family.Names of their children offered on these sites are James, Thomas, Asbury, Margaretta, Martha, Milton, Celia and George.In the following you will see that I believe Samuel was married to Unknown/Unnamed and hadfive children prior to his marriage to Mary Edge with whom he had three more children.
1790-91 North Carolina (probably Orange Co.) is believed birthdate of Samuel Horton.Parents unknown.
About 1805 Hancock Co., GA is believed birthdate of Mary (Edge) Horton, who is believed to be the youngest child of Jeremiah Edge and Cathrine "Katy" (Laws) Edge.
By 1807 Samuel had married his first wife (unknown)
8-19-1807 Land Lottery of Louisville GA (Jefferson Co.) Samuel Horton won two draws in Hancock Co. GA. He would have been about the age of 17-18. Married men under age 21 with a wife and/or child, a resident of GA for three years and a US citizen could win two draws.Single men of age 21 could win one draw.
2-7-1811 Hancock Co. Mary's father Jeremiah Edge died.
1-2-1817 Hancock Co. Mary's widowed mother "Katy" Edge remarried to widower James Cadenhead.
7-1818 in Jones Co., GA Samuel Horton is listed among the purchaser of items at the Sale of William Carr's Sale of Perishables. William is deceased 1st spouse of Jane (Unknown) Carr, who 2nd married on 2-10-1818 James Cadenhead, Jr. who was administrator of William and Jane Carr's estate.

Obediah Edge is next found by 1824in Wilcox Co., AL. and believed never to have married.
Seaborn Edge is next found in 1830 Nassau Co. (prev. Duval) FL.
Ivy Cadenhead, son of James Cadenheadand 1st wife Mary Tripp, married 2-8-1821 Hancock Co.
About 1821 Hancock or Jones Co., GA Mary Edge maried widower Samuel Horton.

Both died in Louisville, Barbour Co., AL.
12-19-1862 Troup Co. son George W. married Matilda Steppe.
Sons Asbury and George W. died in the Civil War.
5-9-1866 Troup Co. son Milton married widower Matilda (Steppe) Edge.
