A House ancestor in KY between 1880 and 1893
I am hoping that a member of the House family can help me.I am researching my Grt Grandmother, Maud Coleman.I have found enough documentation to substantiate MOST of the story we have been told about her.
Here is her story (along with the part dealing with J.B. House):
Maud Coleman was born in Kentucky Sep 10, 1880; she was adopted by the J.B House family; at 13 years old (1893) she lost track of her brother when she moved with the House family to Siloam Springs, IL; J.B. House was the owner/operator of the Forest Hotel in Siloam Springs, IL; J.B. House some time later moved to Godfrey, IL (Madison County, IL) where he died while serving as a Methodist minister of a church there.
I have found a ‘Maud’ born in Roaring Springs, KY (Trigg county) to the E.A. Coleman family; and 1 of the siblings was a brother named Tommie who was the same age as Maud.I know that she did in fact use her adopted name (House) when she married in 1897.Yet, I can find absolutely no information about her adopted father ‘J. B.’ House, whether in KY or IL.I put ‘J.B.’ in quotes because I’m thinking that his initials were not “J. B.”; and that his initials (that’s all we have) may have been ‘lost in translation’, or transcribed incorrectly. Also, I question if he even was a minister, let alone a Methodist minister.
With the information I have provided, is there any member of the House family who may know of a House ancestor who:
lived in the Trigg County, KY area sometime between 1880 and 1893,
moved to Siloam Springs, IL in 1893,
was the owner/operator of the Forest Hotel, in Siloam Springs, IL,
was perhaps a (Methodist) minister, and
died in Madison County, IL?
I am really interested in the circumstances by which my Grt Grandmother was adopted by the House family. If there is anyone who may know anything about ‘J.B.’ House, would you please let me know by either posting a reply to this message, or emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org
I am more than willing to share Maud’s life story after her first marriage!
