Re: Mumford/Ransom House
I have some information that might be of help in sorting out the HOUSE family that was in Harris Co., Tx., in the 1800's. The earliest I have on the House family is:
Thomas W. HOUSE born 4 March 1814 in England, died 11 Jan 1880 in Texas. He arrived in N.Y. in May 1835. The orginal spelling of the House name was Huis.
He had 3 sons and 1 daughter. Thomas headed West and was in Texas in the late 1830's. His first wife may have died before he headed to Texas, because there is no mention of her. He married Mary Shearn on 6 Oct 1840 in Harris Co., Tx., and he died 11 Jan 1880 in Texas. His wife Mary died 28 Jan 1870 in Harris Co., Tx.. Thomas W House had one (1) daughter and four (4) sons. No proof of the following information.I believe the four sons were, Joseph, Ransom, Munford and(for sure)Edward Mandel, who was born 1858 died 1938.
Joseph House' daughter Sarah, married Napoleon Lado on 2 July 1840 in Harris Co., Tx.. They were my gr. gr. grand parents.
Hope this will be of some help.
I use to live in Harris County and I went to the courthouse in Houston and got a copy of the marriage license for Napoleon and Sarah(House) Lado. It has Republic of TEXAS across the top of the license. This was before TEXAS became a state and was a country of its own.
