Howden and Teeven (Teevan) marriage
9 June 2007
Do any of you Howden researchers know which Howden married a Miss Teevan (Teeven) (given name not yet known), daughter of lawyer Andrew Teevan (ca 1749-17 May 1823) early in the 19th century? She may have been born in the 1790s; by 1877 she was already dead.
This Mrs Howden was a sister of (chronological order not known):
. Dr Stephenson Teeven (Teevan) (ca 1797-1877) (formerly a surgeon in the 20th Regiment [British]) of 'Raceview', Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Ireland;
. Agnes Teevan (born ca 1796, Mrs William Weir, who went to Canada about 1840 and died there);
. Andrew Teevan (possibly the Andrew Teevan who is listed in 1846 "Slater’s Directory of County Donegal" as either the 'corn merchant' in the Mall, Ballyshannon, or the 'salt merchant' in Port, in the same Donegal coastal town);
. James Teevan (father of Ballyshannon lawyer Johnston Teevan, also listed in Slater); and
. another Teevan brother who was at the Battle of Waterloo [1815], 10th Regt. of Infantry (he, the youngest, died of yellow fever at a place called Stoney Hill, Jamaica, West Indies).
I am aware from the HOWDEN postings that some Howdens went to Canada, including Ontario. The Mrs Weir (nee Teevan) mentioned above was at some time in Cavan, Ontario, Canada. I don't know whether her sister Mrs Howden was also in Canada. She may have married that Mr Howden either in Ireland or, if she too emigrated, in Canada.
Any help with this matter?
Best regards
