Hello, Colin --
Bessie Howden Penny was the eldest child of William Thomson Howden and Janet Buchanan Polson. Her brother, William Cairns Howden, was my grandfather, and was their eldest son.Ryan McWilliams descends from Bessie and John Penny; I descend from William "Bill" Howden. My grandfather came to the US in 1904, sponsored by William Robert "Old Bob" Howden, his uncle (son of James "Jimmy the Molecatcher" Howden), who owned a prosperous San Francisco Bay-area tile and stone business. My grandfather in turn sponsored his younger brother, George Hogg Howden, who came over about 1917 and lived with my grandparents the rest of his life (never married). I have worked on a Howden genealogy since the 1980's, and it is posted online in Ancestry.comOver the years, I have connected with as many Howdens as possible, including Ryan -- he has done an amazing job of getting the "East Coast" American Howdens information together, and has hosted a reunion, as well. I am also in regular contact with Jeannette Kelly Wright, grand-daughter of Jeannette Howden Scott.
A son of the youngest child of William and Janet Howden (James Howden) currently lives in the Borders, and I am in regular touch with his wife, Dorothy ("Dot") -- he is another William "Bill" Howden ([email protected]).
My email is [email protected], and I would love to hear from you.
Teri Howden Freedman
