Howlett of Barnham Broome, Norf.
Interested in exchanging information on the Riches Howlett family of Barnham Broome, Norfok, England.
Riches Howlett wasbaptized. 20 Mar. 1760 in Hingham, Norfolk, son of Thomas Howlett. He sometimes appears in the records as “Richard”, but his given name seems to have been Riches, which is a fairly common Norfolk surname. While there were several earlier Howletts in Barnham Broome, Riches does not seem to have been directly related to them.Instead, his age at death (and his unusual given name) indicates he is the same as a Riches Howlett born in Hingham, Norfolk – a few miles southwest of Barnham Broome.
Riches Howlett’s wife was Ann Harley (born ca. 1767), as her maiden name is indicated in the baptismal records of their children.I have not found a marriage record, but the Harley surname was fairly common in this area. There was an Ann, daughter of Richard and Mary Harley, bp. Barford 1767 (Norfolk Transcription Archive), a few miles east of Barnham Broome.
