Re: Rees or Rice Hughes, wife Nicketti
Thanks for your reply.I read with interest your book's excerpt re: Hughes and Nicketti, and Elizabeth Hughes and Nathaniel Davis, because there are interesting discrepancies between the book's history and my great-aunt's papers. My great-aunt mentions Elizabeth Hughes' father as John Hughes, a Scottish minister/fur trader, the man who had a clandestine marriage with Nicketti. She also has a much different list of children belonging to Nathaniel Davis and Elizabeth Hughes, possibly married in 1680 - she has them as:
Robert Davis - may have been an ancestor of Jefferson Davis
Mary Davis - married Samuel Burkes
Martha Davis - married Abraham Venable
Abadiah Davis - my direct ancestor, who married Col. William Floyd in 1747.
Robert Davis was nicknamed the "black Davis".I don't have info on who he married - only that he married young and helped his father in his business.I will try to look through my great-aunt's papers for her sources - the discrepancy between lists of children of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Davis is interesting. Some of those names you list as Nathaniel and Elizabeth's children may have been their grandchildren - several of those names are those of the children of Abadiah Davis and Col. William Floyd -
Sally, Elizabeth, John, Charles, Roger, Jemima, Isham, Abadiah and Nathaniel.
I'll try to find my great-aunt's sources - I know she used a lot of DAR publications, and she kept a list of sources as proofs - I'll try to find them.
