I have an ancestor named Derrick Hulick/Gullick.He served in the American Revolution and is buried in Lakeville Cemt. in Addison Twp., Oakland Co., Michigan. In my search for information about him, I found an explanation of the name variations. The Gullick]Hullick line derived from the Netherlands in the 1600's.The accent in their native langauge pronounce the 'G' like the English 'H', as a result persons hearing them give there name would hear the 'Gullick' as 'Hulick' and record it as such.Keeping in mind that many of the immigrants had very limited english language and would not realize the change in spelling. So the name evolved into many spellings.
