My grandfatherMaurice Hulme b 1880 d 1963, emigrated to the states 1901, had 10 brothers and sisters. At age 6 mos was listed as living in Salford with his dad John a painter and 3 sibs. Maurice came thru Ellis Island. Married Rosalie Coombs. Ggranfather John served his apprenticeship in Manchester and earned the right to "be married at the high altar of the Manchester Cathedral and to graze his cattle on the public green". Copies of the marriage certificate can be obtained from the cathedral. I asked that when I visited there. By the by, we lost a lot of family in WWI and WWII and they are remembered and honored in a side chapel there as members of their various regiments. I will try to upload pix of that chapel. It makes you proud, sad, and humble all at the same time.
