Margaret J. Creath Hume was born in Madison county, O., January 13, 1830, was married to Thos. S. Hume in 1850 and survived him five years. She was the mother of five children, three of whom are living, as follows: J. E. Hume, Kearney, Nebraska; Mrs. W. C. Denby and T. C. Hume, Boise City, Idaho. She became connected with the Methodist church in 1870 and was a consistent member the remainder of her life. She came to Kearney in 1879 and was well known to all the old settlers.
