Re: Sarah Hummel, Irish Valley, Pennsylvania
Rebecca,The book is one of those published by Joseph A. Meiser, Jr.They are more like a booklet, A GENEALOGY OF SELECTED NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA PIONEER FAMILIES, From the Arrival of the Immigrant Ancestors to the Present Time, Part VII, The Hummel Family. They were published in 1980 by the authors.I think if you inquire on the Northumberland Co., Pa. Website that is online through U.S. GenWeb. that someone may be able to tell you how to obtain one or even write a letter to the Northumberland Co. Genealogical Society in Sunbury, Pa.There is very little about your line but I will tell you some of what I have found from various sources. The baptisms of Valentine's first three children, Elizabeth, b. Oct. 6, 1820, Samuel, born Jan. 25, 1824, and Sarah, born June 21, 1828 are in the records at the St. Peter's Blue Church, Ralpho Twp.Valentine's wife, Maria (Polly) Shipe (Scheib) is one of three siblings that married Frederick Hummel's children.Mariawas the child of Johann Heinrich Shipe (Scheib) and his wife, Elizabeth Sherry.
I know nothing about the Tilletts.I do not know when Valentine died, but it was before 1844 when his father, Frederick, died. The will makes that clear. Also, Maria died and is buried Pottsville, Schuykill, Pa.She died 29 June 1872.Some of this information came from "Scraps of Maternal Family History" by Sallie Tillett Bartholmew.I think if you search around on the Internet you may find some other Shipe researchers.I corresponded with one about ten years ago.
In the beginning I was pretty dumb about putting my sources down and where I found them, I am sorry I cannot tell you where I saw the material by Sallie Tillett Bartholmew.
I hope these clues help you find more of what you are looking for, Good Luck.
