William's father John and his wife went to Red River Co. in 1818.John died and she was unable to make a go of the homestead.John's wife's name was Cynthia Reed.She went back to Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, etc.William married Mary McGill in 1829.In 1836 William and Mary and several of their children returned to Red River County.I think he came back after he was sure Texas had some reasonable expectation of independence.He had a brother named John R. Humphreys and a sister named Cynthia Reed Humphreys.His oldest daughter was also named Cinthia. (I wish they could change those names.)I think George was William's half brother.I don't know the name of the first wife, but I think George is older.

William's grandfather was named William Humphreys, too.I have been told that his will was probated in Blount Co. TN. in 1820.I am trying to get proof of that.It is a puzzlement.Keep looking!
