I thought some of the Humphreys and Glovers would like or could use the info that I have. My great grandmother was Lily Winona Glover the daughter of John Martin Glover and Penese J. Humphreys Glover. Here is what I was always told: Penese was born in Tennesse, her father was Horatio, her mother was Mary. Her last name she insisted was pronounced Umphrey. She moved to Illinois with her family. John Martin Glover's first wife died after only a year or two of marriage. Afterward he asked Penese to marry him. She was about 20 years old, very pretty, with dark hair and blue eyes. Her daughter Lily Winona, said that her mother told her she was part french. Penese wanted to marry John Glover but her family objected, as they did not want her to moved and especially not to Dallas, Tx. She eloped with John and settled in Hamilton, Tx. They loved each other and were very happy. Their favorite relative was Caroline, John's sister, who would come to their ranch from the city.(John and Penese's children loved Aunt Caroline and thought she was beautiful.) Penese died when she was about 36. John always dressed in black for the rest of his life. None of Penese's children or grandchildren ever met any of the Humphreys or perhaps had no memory of it. I was always told that John and Penese loved each other very much and were very happy and that John Glover was a kind and loving husband and father.
