Charles B. (Bolivar or Bolliver) Humphries of White Co. Arkansas
Hello,
We are looking for anyone who might be descended from Charles B. (said to be Bolivar or Bolliver) Humphries of White County, Arkansas. He was the son of John and Piety Raines Humphries, who settled in White Co. about 1845.The 1850 census shows him as Charles, age 16, b. GA in the household of P. (Piety) Humphries. This would put his birth date at 1833 or 1834.White County marriage records show that Charles B. Humphries married Mary Jane Smith on August 22, 1855.The 1860 census of White County shows C.B. and M.J. Humphries as residents there, with a 4-yr old male “J.” and a two year old female “V.” in their household.
Descendant Jack Moye recently found this Civil War record for the Arkansas 36th Regiment: “Humphries, C.B. Pvt., Age 29, Enr 26 June 1862, Springfield, AR, detailed as wagoner.”Company E of the 36th regiment was from White County.
We have not been able to find any more records of Charles, but he is listed as the father of John C. (Charles) Humphries (m. Mary Ann Little) on John’s death certificate from White Co. Arkansas dated 1914.
Does anyone have any further information about Charles? We are particularly interested in locating him (if he were still living) and his family in the 1870 census. We have not been able to find any trace of him in that census. But we know that his son, John C., was living in White County with his new wife Mary in 1880. We believe Charles had other children and either didn’t leave White County or if he left, perhaps died somewhere else not long after, as at least one son (John) returned to White County.
There is also a notation on some Providence Cemetery records in Judsonia, AR,that Charles was also the father of S.B. Humphries, but we are not sure who that is.
Hope someone can help.
Thank you.
Charlene
