Nice to hear from you. I think we have been in contact before. If I remember correctly, you are descended from John Humphries (d. ca 1738)and Mary White of Brunswick Co., VA through their son Charles. My family is descended through their son William.Robert of Surry Co., VA d. ca. 1714 was probably John's brother.Even though the argument that John of Brunswick was Robert's son was pretty well demolished by Brent Holcomb in his 1985 book about the Humphries family, the idea still appears as fact on internet family trees. But Robert could very well have had children.I suspect he was the father of a Robert Humphries who appeared in Brunswick Co. VA in the 1730s when John and his family were there and also perhaps Griffin and Daniel Humphries who were found in those parts.Still, I can't find anyone who claims to be descended from Robert or Griffin. The common wisdom is that Daniel was the son of William Humphries, and so was a grandson of John and Mary White Humphries, but this assertion is contradicted by facts (see another message on this bulletin board authored by me showing that John and Mary White's son William was not the William Humphries who lived in Onslow Co., NC in the mid-1700s).
There is a cluster of descendants of John and Mary White Humphries listed at the FamilytreeDNA Humphrey(s) project website. There are two documented descendants of William on different branches and one documented descendant of Charles who match within 34/37 genetic markers.A couple of other people have matched our cluster, but we don't know how they connect to us.They are all listed as descendants of John Humphries, d. 1738.It would be great if one of your brothers decided to test. He should match the cluster.Sometimes FamilytreeDNA offers sales and the tests are substantially cheaper than usual.I can tell you first-hand, though, that the results can be surprising! We can talk off-line if you want more information about that. You should be able to find the Humphrey(s) project website on the FamilytreeDNA website if you want to see current data on this family.I was actually named for my father, who is Charles. My parents didn't like the name Charlotte, so they chose Charlene instead.
