Richard: I took a brief look at Hillsdale Co. records. Hannah H., died April 5, 1869 in Pittsford Twp. of heart disease. Her claims: born in Rhode Island, to the Joseph Maxons, originally from New York. Stephen died of old age (80), May 6, 1877. Apparently no peers left who could testify as to his parentage or place of birth. Spaces are blank. Hiram died Feb. 9, 1901 in Pittsford Twp. (Heart disease). Claimed his parents were Stephen Hungerford (of NY) and Annie Beebe. Several of the claims seem odd as if the respondents could no longer remember real data in their dotage. But then, many people of that era were also illiterate. Sarah could only sign with an X. Post 1870 there was also a Wes and Caroline Hungerford in the area. They didn't show up in the 1870 Hillsdale census but they had a stillborn son there in that year. Caroline died the next year. They lived in Woodbridge Twp.
