Ref:12/6/98 Message from Yvonne Vares:I know this is an old message, but I thought I would update it due to recent census info I have found:
The Levi (shown in the 1790 Census) from Lanesborough, Mass. is not the son of Simeon and Elizabeth of New Fairfield, CT.The 1790 Lanesborough, MA Census shows Simeon, Levi, and Thomas as heads of family.Levi is married with, I believe, one boy and one girl.
Simeon, son of Samuel and Mary Graves, and Elizabeth Birchard were not married until 1789.He was 23 and his first son, Elijah was born in 1790, so his son, Levi, was born after that.
Simeon's father, Samuel, died in September 1789.I have not been able to find Simeon on any CT or VT 1790 census.I believe he may have been living with his mother, Mary, in New Fairfield, CT.She died in New Fairfield in 1793 and I see a Mary Hungerford in the 1790 New Fairfield Census as Head of Household.Detail of family members shows:"1 adult male and 2 females including HOH."That, to me, would be Simeon (adult male) and Widow Mary and Wife Elizabeth (females).Son of S&E, Elijah, was probably born after June 1790 when the census is usually taken.
Simeon and Elizabeth had a second son, Leonard, born in 1791 in New Fairfield, CT.
To date, I have not been able to find Levi's DOB, but I will post it here when I do.I would love to hear from any family members who are also searching the Simeon-Elizabeth Hungerford line (New Fairfield, Fairfield, CT to Swanton, Franklin County, Vermont).
