According to Adair co. marriages, a Hannah Hunsaker married William E Hesley on Nov 30, 1881.Also, a Hannah E Hunsaker married a Henry C Stephens on Feb 26 1880. One Hannah appears to be the daughter of Bradford Hunsaker (b 13 July 1813) and Leodica Stice (b. 29 Aug 1815).The other is the daughter of Bradford's son, Absalom (b 10 June 1837) and Illinois Luster (b. 1843.)The question is which is which?
Doris Hunsaker Wilson of Benton Arizona complied a Hunsaker history that lists a Hannah born to Bradford and Leodocia about 1859.She also lists a Hannah F Hunsaker (b. 7 Aug 1865) as born to Absalom and Illinois. This Hannah married a Henry Clay Stivers. There is a good chance that Stivers and Stephens are one in the same person.Doris lists 1870 & 1880 federal census records as her source. She also lists family bible of Hattie Munn Hunsaker and Karen (Hunsaker) Corarkin of Fulton, Mo as sources.
I have located the death certificate for the Hannah A. Hunsaker who married William Hensley and that document signed in 1895 lists as Hannah's parents as Absalom and Illinois. This Hannah's grave stone cites (in error) the death year as 1896.
I am having problems with this Hannah's birth date as well. From a family ledger maintained by Hannah's son-in-law and dated Sept 2 1915 shows Hannah's birthdate as 17 Aug 1864,Kirksville, MO. However the birth record of this Hannah's and William's youngest child, Ruth Mae,(b 11 May 1893) dated May 12, 1893 lists Hannah's age as of last birthday as 28 years. This would make Hannah's birth year as 1865.
To add to this confusion, I have copies of letters written in the late 1970s from a Carl Gates that indicates this Hannah was the child of Absalom and Illinois. His birth record for Hannah is 7 Aug, 1865; he stated his was a copy of the information obtained from Absalom's family Bible. Carl Gates', aunt, Mary Jane Gates, was Absalom's second wife.
So, I have two Hannah Hunsakers both listed as daughter Absalom and Illnois.I hope some one will be able to provide me with the documentation that was used to identify Hannah F Hunsaker, wife of Henry Clay Stevers (Stephens)as daughter of Absalom and Illnois
