I'm a Sprinkle descendant and very interested in your post. The following was recently sent to me:
"The book "Lebanon County and Vicinity History", published in 1879, by G. A. Kirshner, on page 109 states "Israel Wirt and his wife and eight children lived three miles north of Kleinfeltersville sharing and working the land with his wife's father, Samuel Sprinkle, who owned the one hundred - twenty acres and some livestock. Israel and wife lived near her father and grandfather, Koppl Hunsaker for nine years until the spring 1835, hence they decided to journey west to the new lands opening up." -- end quote
However, something is definitely wrong with this. There was an Elizabeth Sprinkle (b. Shenandoah Co., VA) who married an Israel Wirt, however the family did not live in PA.They married in Highland Co., OH, where they appear on the 1830 census and then are in Randolph Co., IN in 1840 and continued to live there until their deaths.
Additionally, Elizabeth's father was dead by about 1814 and died in Shenandoah Co., VA.Elizabeth's mother was named Mary, but she's taxed in Shenandoah Co., VA through 1816 and then appears on the 1820 Highland Co., OH census. In 1830 & 1840 we feel she is the woman of the proper age living with son (yes, son) Samuel Sprinkle in Fayette Co., OH.
My triple great grandfather was a brother to Eliabeth Sprinkle Wirt, so you can see I am vitally interested in this family. . .and the apparent incorrect or garbled information in the Lebanon Co., PA history.
How are you connected to the family?Looking forward to hearing from you, either through the forum or directly to me at firstname.lastname@example.org
