For many years I have been trying to tie the many variations of the spellings together. I have a copy of a book published in 1920 Germany about the family. The only problem with this book is getting it translated as it is written in the "Highest of High German", and not spoken today.
The Hunsaker/Hunsinger/Hunziker/Hunsicker family seems to have been a very religious lot. Participating in religious debates across the area. Of course they were Anabaptist or Mennonites, and in this book there is a letter written by a Hunziker who was b. 1810. In this letter it talks about 12 preachers that were imprisioned in Bern Switzerland for religious persecution. I find on a list in 1728 of Mennonites that were in the Island Castle Dungeon at Bern, 3 names come to my attention. Jacob... Rudolph... and Hartman, all listed with the same last name. Now this Hartman would be my direct line.
Hartman received help from the Mennonite Relief Committee in 1731 and made the passage to Philadelphia.
In 1734 Hartman pays a "quit rent" in Frederick Township, PA. At this time there were only 4 other Hunsickers, Huntzickers etc.. that had arrived in Pennsylvania and were also listed. One of them was your Valentine Hunsicker. Oddly enough the others were a Jacob, Rudolph and a Johannes.
This sent up flares... Could this Jacob and Rudolph be the same ones that were in prison with Hartman and what was their relation? Brothers, cousins, uncles and nephews?
So if any of you have information on a Jacob or Rudolph Hunsicker that you know were in Pennsylvania by 1734 please contact me.
I did not mean to ramble, but I thank you for your time and consideration.
