Hurts of Campbell, Prince Edward, Charlotte counties in Virginia
Hello fellow searchers! First off, I wanted to tell about the wonderful Library of Virginia website. You can find it here:http://www.lva.virginia.gov/public/using_collections.asphttp://www.lva.virginia.gov/public/using_collections.asp
Look for the digital collections. There is a lot of information to be found in the Military collections and the Chancery Records Index.
I have been searching for years for parents to my 3rd great grandfather, William Samuel Hurt. I have seen where many people have his father as John M Hurt and his mother as Louisa McGuire. I searched that out and found two separate people. William M Hurt was the son of John M Hurt and Louisa McGuire. William Samuel Hurt, who went by Sam was married to Martha Jane Belcher. I have found an application for each of these men, to the Robert E Lee, Confederate Soldiers home that was in Richmond Virginia. The applications are in the Library of Virginia Military collection. I finally found the family of my William Samuel Hurt in the Chancery cases section of the Library of Virginia. His parents had filed for divorce, which I don't think was ever finalized. There are two files with names of children and testimonies from some of the older children, so I found married names of siblings of William Samuel Hurt. Through all of this searching, I found that a name of a witness to William Samuel Hurts application for the Robert E Lee home, was Charles E Blankenship, who I found later was his cousin, son to Sams sister Sarah Jane Hurt who married Joel L Blankenship.
So, if there is anyone out there connected to this family, please contact me. I found so much more information and I didn't mean to write so much on here. My email is [email protected]
