William Samuel Hurt is my 3rd great grandfather. I have researching his family for several years, never able to find him as a child with his parents. He went by Sam and even his marriage record was transcribed Hart. But the wife's name was correct. They lived in West Virginia. Searching for Sam Hurt several times would bring me to the Sons of the American revolution file for an Edward Franklin Hurt. It showed his lineage. The middle name Franklin caught my attention because that is my 2nd great grandmothers middle name, William Samuels daughter was Sarah Franklin Hurt. Eventually I found a couple of case files in the Virginia Chancery records that were about this family. A Sarah H Hurt was filing for separation from her husband Samuel Jones Hurt. I was reading through it yesterday, trying to find what it said about Robert. There are a lot of accusations from both sides and depositions where they interviewed friends and family. Very difficult to read. I think the link is attached to several people in my tree. It gives the names of the children and approximate ages. I was able to get married names of the daughters in the
family. Robert gives a deposition, he marks it with an X. I did not read it all yesterday. It's some 80 pages long and handwritten out. I do have more information in another one of my trees that I have kept private. Please know that I do know there may be mistakes. If you notice some let me know. I have also attached to the tree that sons of the American revolution document that let me to them. Edward Franklin Hurt was a brother of my William Samuel Hurt and your Robert Meredith Hurt. We need this information out there with the documentation. Too many people have put the wrong parents for my 3rd great grandfather. And at one point I thought I had found them but did not find proof. And found two William hurts who were born at almost the very same month and around same general area. I have his info in my tree also to show that they are separate although connected eventually.
