James Garretson/Garrison/Garrison (b say 1720s) was in Carteret Co, NC by 1762 when he purchased land there.
A source that is not well-documented wrote that he was from New Castle Co, DE and had married _____ HUSSEY before he moved to NC.He was the father of Isaiah Garrison who sold his father’s land in 1771 and was found in Orange Co, NC as early as 1776.My source claims James was the father of Jedediah Garrison (b c1752 Carteret Co, d 1830 Franklin Co, GA), of Ebenezer Garrason (b by 1750, d 1801 Duplin Co, NC) and other Garr*sons who lived in Duplin Co during the late 1700s.
I give that information because those events suggest a date for _____ HUSSEY (b perhaps 1720s?).I’m wondering if her father was one of the Christopher HUSSEYs of Delaware?
Please don’t post telling me that it is foolish to use similarity of names to make connections.I know that and would never use such as proof. However, I am at my wits end; therefore, my suggestion that James’ father-in-law might have been a Christopher HUSSEY.
Jedediah Garrison, possible son of James Garretson and _____ HUSSEY, named a son Christopher Garrison. Now, that in itself does not suggest anything. But, when she was old, one of Jedediah’s granddaughters wrote a paper in which she claimed that Jedediah’s father was Christopher Garrison, who later was erroneously identified as the one christened on Staten Island in 1730.Now, some of the family claim that Christopher Garrison reared his family in North Carolina but no one has ever been able to find even one record for his name.
My fertile imagination leads me to wonder if the old lady misunderstood who was who.Perhaps the original story was that Jedediah had named a son Christopher for his (Jedediah’s) grandfather. It is almost impossible that his grandfather Garretson was a Christopher, so perhaps his Grandfather HUSSEY was.
Please do NOT copy any of the above in your records. There is too much speculation. And do NOT be kind by recommending A T Outlaw’s sketch of the Garrison-Williams-Dobson families of Duplin Co.I have known of it for decades and know that it contains many errors.
