197. Cyrus Stone6 Ingersoll (Simon,5 James,4 Simon,3 John,2 John1), born Dec. 18, 1814; m., Oct. 1, 1840 to Calista Gay, who died Aug. 3, 1875. Cyrus Ingersoll left his home in Illinois as a young man to become a forty-niner. A few years later he returned from California, but when gold was discovered in Colorado in 1859 he joined one of the caravans bearing the legend "Pike's Peak or Bust." From Colorado he went on into Montana with the third rush of gold hunters. Only moderately successful as a gold miner, he settled down in Helena and established a flourishing medical practice.
