Gerald Wayne Inglett
I did hear from a William Hatcher concering my inquiry.
I do thank you very much for responding.
Interesting to hear from you. Wayne and I were high school friends (Class of 1964, Richmond Academy, Augusta, GA). In the 10th grade, Wayne was the right guard on our junior varsity football team and I was the left guard. We were officers, together,in our Junior ROTC program and he joined the Marines a year or so after graduation. I went off to the Univ of Georgia and lost contact with Wayne and was heartbroken to hear that he had died in Vietnam. I have since learned that he was killed in a rocket attack, as were so many others, in about 1967. I didn't get to RVN myself until the summer of 1970 where I served as an engineer platoon leader. Wayne, after graduation, moved to an adjoining county, Columbia, where he is memorilized on a plaque at "Patriots Park", Evans, GA. He was a fine young man and I miss him. If I were going into battle again, I would want Wayne with me. There's not much better praise an old soldier can give a Marine.
