I'm delighted to make contact! As you probably know, William Washington Hughes married Julia Frances Harman. They moved from Missouri to (briefly Minnesota) and then out to Oregon, near Woodburn in the Willamette Valley, as did all but one of their adult children.
Their children were Arthur, Mary Vernetta (died in early childhood in Texas), Walter, Effie, Bascom, William, Sadie (did not move to Oregon, though at least one son did), Mamie, Ada (my grandmother), Everett, and Gladys.I remember Mamie, Ada, and Gladys well.My mom, of course, remembers all of them (except the baby who died.)Sadie would visit Oregon regularly.
We occasionally have Hughes reunions, though we haven't had any since I started recording the genealogy.Consequently, I don't have some of the descendants -- but this will be a good reason to get it recorded now.
Several of the children did not have children of their own, though all but one married: Effie Margaret Hughes married George W. Sweaney, no children.William John Hughes never married, no children.Mamie Amanda Hughes m Walter Blaine Seely, no children. Walter Scott Hughes m Ruth Elizabeth Hughes, no children (Ruth Hughes had a child by a previous marriage.)All of them are gone now, of course.
The ones with children of their own are: Arthur Elmer Hughes m Leora Bell Sappington. Bascom Harman Hughes m Alice Louise Davis. Sadie Lee Hughes m Charles Sybrant. Ada Isabelle Hughes m Ralph K. Seely. Everett Jennings Hughes m Hazel Elizabeth Magnusen. Gladys Gertrude Hughes m Allen Leonard Larson. All of them are gone now also, though all of Gladys and Ada's children are still living.I'm not sure about the others, but I'll get current on them, too.
Contact me by e-mail, and we'll swap more info.
