I am a great-great-great-great-grandson of Lemuel Lemmon and Sarah Burk, descended from their oldest child, Elisha Lemmon/Lemon, and have done extensive research on this family. The Sally Lemmon who married Henry Isgrig, Harrison County, Kentucky, was not a child of Lemuel Lemmon and Sarah Burk. When Lemuel Lemmon and wife Sarah Burk moved from Baltimore County, Maryland, to Kentucky in 1795, they lived first in Jefferson County, KY, and then in Bullitt County, Kentucky, when Bullitt County, KY, was created out of Jefferson County in 1797.They remained in Bullitt County, KY, until 1811, when they moved to Butler County, Ohio, and shortly thereafter to Franklin County, Indiana.Lemuel Lemmon and wife Sarah Burk never lived in Harrison County, KY.The children of Lemuel Lemmon and Sarah Burk are, as follows:
1: Elisha Lemon (he dropped the double "m" in the last name) b. 1788, Patapsco Lower Hundred, Baltimore County, Maryland; married his second cousin Ruth Allender, 19 Feb 1818 in Bullitt County, KY (he travelled from Indiana back to KY to get married then came right back to Indiana).Elisha Lemon is my direct ancestor.
2: Sarah Lemmon, b. 1790, Baltimore County, Maryland; Sarah Lemmon, daughter of Lemuel Lemmon and Sarah Burk, married 18 Jan 1821 in Franklin County, Indiana, to Stephen Baker; d. before 1839 in Indiana. Sarah Lemon Baker and her husband Stephen Baker and their two children are mentioned in Sarah's father Lemuel Lemmon's probate from Franklin County, Indiana, as his probate was not settled until the 1840s.This Sarah Lemmon has probably been confused with the Sally Lemmon who married Henry Isgrig; they are not the same person.
3: Ulick Lemmon, b. 30 July 1791, Baltimore County, Maryland; married 9 Feb 1828 in Sangamon County, Illinois, to Susan (Susanah) Pierce Bachus, a widow.
4: Mary Lemmon, b. 1794, Baltimore County, Maryland; never married; d. 1842, Buchannan County, Missouri, where her will naming all her siblings as heirs was probated; her sister Sarah Lemmon Baker's 2 children are mentioned as heirs of Mary Lemmon in 1842, as Sarah Lemmon Baker had died before 1839 in Indiana.Mary Lemmon owned land which is now part of the present city of St. Joseph, Missouri.
5: John Lemmon, b. 8 June 1800, Bullitt County, Kentucky; married 20 Sep 1826 in Franklin County, Indiana, to Jane Bourne Crocker; John Lemmon and wife Jane moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, about 1841 with John's unmarried sister Mary Lemmon; in 1845, John Lemmon took his family over the Oregon Trail to Oregon Territory, where they were early settlers.John Lemmon's oldest daughter, who was 16 years old and married when John Lemmon took the Oregon Trail west, wrote a book when she was about 90 years old about her journey on the Oregon Trail and also told what she knew about her Lemon family ancestors, including her grandparents Lemuel Lemmon and Sarah Burk; this book is in the Oregon State Archives and can also be found digitalized on-line at several on-line book transcription websites.
6: Martha Lemmon, b. 1803, Bullitt County, Kentucky; never married; died before 1841 in Indiana.
7: Elizabeth Lemmon, b. 1805, Bullitt County, Kentucky; married 27 Sep 1826 in Franklin County, Indiana, to David Martin Anthony; d. 5 Jan 1850, Jackson Township, Hamilton County, Indiana.
These are all of the children of Lemuel Lemmon and Sarah Burk. They are all named in Lemuel Lemmon's probate file, which spans the years from 1820 to about 1842 in Franklin County, Indiana.
I believe the "Sally" Lemmon who married Henry Isgrig may have been the daughter of one of the younger brothers of Lemuel Lemmon, probably either John Lemmon, Jr., who married Millison Foster and died 1850 in Harrison County, Indiana, or Thomas Lemmon who married Millison's sister Comfort Foster and died 29 Dec 1854 at New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana. Both John Lemmon, Jr., and Thomas Lemmon spent time in Kentucky, and I beleive one or both lived in Harrison County, KY, for a while.
I hope this has been helpful.
