Re: Mary Isham Randolph's "childhood fling"
I don't have "official" documentation, as in court records, etc. I only have an old family history that was passed to my father who passed it to me. It's typed on an old-style typewriter and came from a Browder who resided in Dumas, Texas and said he is a descendant of the "Isham Browder that married his first cousin, Martha Browder." As you will see, much of the information is quite detailed regarding dates of birth, death and marriage, leading me to believe that it might've come from official documentation. His information follows the line in this way:
Arthur Browder, born about 1715 in Prince George Co., Va. Died in 1739 leaving an infant heir named "Isham (I)," reared by Arthur's brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Mary Browder.
Isham (I) (Arthur's son) born 1738 or 1739, married his first cousin Martha in 1760. Together, they had a son named Isham (II). "There were perhaps other children, but they're unknown" (to this descendant, anyway!).
Isham (II) Born June 12, 1762, probably in Dinwiddie Co., Va., died Feb. 19, 1830 in Fulton Co., Ky., and is buried on his son's (Augustine Browder) farm, near Fulton, Fulton Co., Ky. He married first RACHEL SLATON about 1788 in Goochland Co., Va.;she was born 1764, died Aug. 1808, and was the daughter of John Slaton and Susannah Hodges. Rachel is buried in the Browder Cemetary at Browder Methodist Chapel which is about seven miles east of Madisonville Ky. ISHAM II AND RACHEL SLATON had 9 children: John, Josiah, Pleasant, Martha, Mary, Isham III (born May 13, 1799: died June 8, 1864), James, Augustine, and David. After wife Rachel Slaton died, ISHAM II married his second wife ELIZABETH SEARCE, Dec. 20, 1810 and they had 2 children: Kitty and Harbert. ISHAM II enlisted in the Revolutionary War in 1776 at the age of 14 and served until wounded in the Battle of Monmouth in 1779.
I have information tracing the descendents of this particular ISHAM BROWDER (II) all the way down to myself. My great-grandfather was JOHN ISHAM BROWDER, born September 22, 1853 in Crockett County, Tennessee, and died February 1938 in Pomona, California. He is buried around Rio Vista, Texas. He and his first wife MARY HARDIN had 7 children--one of them my grandfather, William Thomas Browder.
