Re: Research on the name Island or Illand
It'supposed to be a joke. Island and Islam share no more than some vowels! as well as the turkish surname "Ilan".
The first Island, or Illand or Illend, (ancestors of all the Illand in France)settled in the farm of "Illendière" in the village of Contest. Their origin still remains a mystery. The main debate is between celtic or saxon origin.
As well,no links with those old spanish ylan families we meet up to latin america nowadays.
First archives about Contest (mid XVIth century) use the spelling "Illend".
