Re: Thomas James/Elizabeth Mace/Rachel Allen
Sorry to be slow in getting back to you-I have been searching and searching the Allen name.I have determined that there were two Vincent Allen's in NC at the same time. And they have been thoroughly confused together in numerous postings througout the web.
Here is my thoughts:I think that the Vincent Allen who was next door to Benjamin and John Allen in 1810 and 1820 Lincoln Co., NC are connected in some way to our John Allen Sr. The best I can figure, this Vincent Allen was born May 11 1756 in Culpeper or Essex Co., VA. He married abt 1778 Culpeper Co., VA to Elizabeth Hail/Haile/Hale and he died 30 May 1834 in Lincoln Co.Elizabeth d. 19 Oct 1848 in Lincoln Co., NC.Vincent received a pension in 1832 for his service in Rev. War and his widow Elizabeth received a widow's pension in 1834.
Now the confusion:There is another Vincent Allen who was in Warren Co., NC.He was the son of Charles Allen and Nancy Ann Vincent and he was b. abt 1750-59 (depending on the tree) in VA and d.April 1836 in Warren Co., NC. He married Mary Bowdoin 17 Mar 1791 Warren Co., NC.Many "trees" have his birth and death as those of Vincent of Lincoln Co. Vincent and Mary (Bowdoin) Allen had ch. listed as:
Nancy, Tabitha, John b. 15 May 1794 Warren Co., NC, Edmund b. 12 Jul 179, Turner b. 1 June 1806
Vincent Allen and Eliz. (Haile) Allen had ch. listed as:
Andrew, Lucy, Stanley (female married to Autison Black, son of William Black, 13 Oct 1808.Some trees have Stanley as a male, but she is female), Vincent Haile, Nancy Ann, John, Margaretta Rebecca, married Joseph Black 1st, son of William Black and brother to Autison and James, in 1816. Joseph died in 1817 and she married 1 Oct 1819 to Philip Delinger, Susannah b. 22 JAN 1779, married James Black, 1806/1807, son of William Black and brother to Autison Black and Joseph Black.
The bondsman for Susannah Allen and Stanley Allen marriage was John Allen. Not sure which John Allen though.I do question if Susannah was the dau. of Vincent as in the papers of Elizabeth's pension records of 1838 she names only the "surviving children as John, Stanley, Margaret and Hale".Susannah didn't die until 1847 so she would have been a "surviving" child if she were Vincent and Eliz. dau. My mother has the papers for Vincent and Eliz. pension records. I will get them and take a look at them too.
Doesn't clear up anything, but gives us something to chew on.If Vincent of Essex Co. is related to our John Allen Sr., the that gives us another place to look for records on him. Vincent Allen and John Allen were listed on page 364 of the 1810 census as both age "45+" and again in 1820
as "45+"yrs.They could have been brothers or cousins.
Anyway if you want to contact me directly via e-mail that would be fine with me.
