Anneke Jans historic items

By Karen Simmons July 22, 2005 at 07:03:08

In case you are interested, there is a trunk that once belonged to Anneka Jans (Bogardus) at the Albany Institute of History and Art at 125 State St. Albany, New York. It is not currently on public display but if you call and make an appointment, they will let you view it. It is believed to have been made in about 1610 and brought to New Netherlands by Anneke when she came in 1630.
Also of interest in Albany, at First Church on Pearl St. there is a pulpit from 1642. This pulpit was originally in the Dutch Reformed Church where Anneke worshipped. The church also has documents which they do not display written by one of Anneke's sons.
At 63 State St. there is a plaque denoting the place where Anneke's home once stood.
Does anyone know of other items that once belonged to Anneke? I noticed someone said they had a copy of the land grants regarding Trinity Church. There are stories about a spice chest and silver cups that were handed down. Does anyone know where these are now? The papers I recieved showing documentation for her trunk mention two silver tankards of the Clearwater Collection now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Does anyone know about these tankards? I'd love to see and take a picture of these items if anyone knows where they are.
