Jansens from Germany 1849

By Dru Carter February 02, 2008 at 05:28:36

Immigration records show this Jansen family originated Friesland, departed Bremen on the ship Rebecca and arrived Baltimore, Md. 3 May 1849:

Diedrich Jansen - 46
Elisabeth - 46
Marie - 18
Bernhard - 14
Gerhard - 12
George - 9
Johann - 5
Anna - 4

Diedrich's occupation is given as "miller."Does anyone recognize this family?I believe nine year old George may be my great-grandfather who we only have known as Jerry Janssen.I have come to believe that "Jerry" is a diminutive.I know very little about him, but do know that he was born in Hanover, Germany and came to Cincinnati with his family when he was nine years old.He had a sister named Anna.He was living in Rising Sun, Indiana when he married my great-grandmother, Drucilla Gray, in Vevay, In. 14 Apr 1864.It appears there were no other Janssens/Jansens in Rising Sun.Jerry was a marble cutter - maybe he went there for work.Jerry and Drucilla were living in Paris, Il. in 1866 when their daughter, Anna (my grandmother) was born. After a few years they relocated to New Florence, Montgomery Co. Mo. where Drucilla's mother and sisters had settled.Jerry died 14 Aug 1909.Thank you for reading this.Any clues appreciated!! Dru C
