Dear Christina, I'm assuming you are a Jarrard related to Ansel. He was my fifth great grandfather. I've been working on this line for quite awhile.
I have him staying in Anderson, SC, until his death, where his property is distributed but no will or probate has been found. This is about 1820.He is in the census until and including 1800. He was buying property in 1803. He owned over 300 acres at the time of his death. In the Anderson records his name varies between Jarrett, Gerod,Jarrad, etc, but I never found Jarrard. That seems to have appeared with son John David in Habersham and Lumpkin counties, 1850, 1860 census. In earlier census David is a Jarrett or derivative.
I have studied David's naming of his children and his choices of middle names seem to mimic the Jaretts/Jarrards that settled Northern Ga at the end of the 1700's and early 1800's.Specifically the group with Fadda Jarrett and his family.Going further back that group picks up the Jarrard spelling and others that look like a French background---way way back.
I too am looking for Ansel's parents.I keep poking around the side lines to see if other connections would help us learn more. I am convinced there was a Roe connection long before John David married Francis Roe. Francis brother was also an Ansel/Hansil.
By the way, Ansel fought for South Carolina during the Revolutionary War. My line comes through Ansel's son Joseph Jarrett Sr (1850 census, Murray Co, GA) Joseph's children married a lot with my other line--the Stephensons from South Carolina. Joseph Jarrett had an older daughter, Martha Jane, that married a Stephenson.
Ansel may have also been connected to Thomas and Peter Jarett of Abbevile but I haven't been able to prove it. I do know that at the time of one property sale, Ansel Sr had a son, Ansel Jr in Abbeville. I have not been able to find Jr anywhere but in the land transfer.Ansel also had a daughter (?) Lydia, from Franklin, Tn, who received land from his estate.Hope this all is helpful. By the way, Lydia isn't found in Franklin, Tn in the 1820 census but there is a Mary Jarrett, widow, and a man, Vincent Jarrett and family. I have been following him because later in his line a grandson or other relation turns up named Ansel. Hmmmmm
