Re: JARRETT/GRIFFITH lines thru David Jacob
Thanks for passing along all that Hicks/Jarrett information.
The Greenbrier/Monroe Jarrett's definitely came from Berks Co. PA.David Gerrad (ca. 1700-1761)'s estate settlement filed in Berks CO. in 1798 (about the time his widow Margaret died) gives a complete list of heirs and it all matches up with the Jarretts and related families living in Monroe, along with a few documents filed in places like Franklin Co VA where some of the heirs were making sure they got their shares by appointing powers of attorney, etc.
The only place I have seen it written that David Jarret (ca.1740-1808) was married to Jane Griffith was in undocumented genealogies online.I have never seen it in any old county history books, nor in any primary sources.Usually these genealogies state David and Jane were married in Buckingham Co. VA, without citation of course. Most of Buckingham's early records were destroyed when the courthouse burned in about 1869, so I'm not sure how anyone could know they were in Buckingham or that Jane was from Buckingham.
Thanks for your responses.I look forward to reading more of your thoughts on this mystery.
