There is a graveyard at Smithers called the Lykins Cemetery. The Lykins family owned all the land on theNorth side of the Kanawha River from Smithers to Boomer Hollow.

This cemetery according to the highway dept. has over 71 graves. Only 12 graves in this cem have readable stones. One of them is for Herod Lykins Born July 14, 1836 Died Feb. 15, 1861 age 21.

There is a book called Smithers WV, By John Cavalier.

Here is an excert from his book.

In 1937 excavation for a new route for US 60 began, During this excavation workers unearthed 71 bodies. When uncovered, numerous graves yielded only a few bones and bits of wood and metal. In a number of cases workmen found that bodies were covered with only a few feet of soil which had worn down by erosion. How long some of the people had been buried there could not be determined, but several markers bore the dates of 1889, 1894, 1896. All of the bodies found were reburied in another section of the graveyard. Removal of the cemetery became necessary in rerouting the railroad crossing. The burial ground was known as the Old Lykins Cemetery. many of the pioneer residents of the valley were buried here. According to older inhabitants the cemetery dates back to 1824.
(Note there is a bit more to this piece.)

Now if Peter Lykins grandson Herold (Herod on stone)that is named in his will is buried here. Then it stands to reason that a good many other Lykins family members where buried here also. And it is pos. that several Jarrett's were also.

Fayette County Cemetery records Vol. V. By the Fayette_ Raleigh Genealogical Society also has this cemetery listed and they say it has at least 100 graves. They list 12 also with readable stones. They also mention the piece from the Smithers Book.

David's Jarrett's brother James Jarrett Sr. is mentioned in The History of Greenbrier County By Cole Page 179-180 family sketch of Thomas Hickman Jarrett as having two wives 1st Elizabeth Griffy 2nd Rosanna Vincent. And states that Rosanna was born Feb, 1, 1779 and Died Aug. 21, 1864. further states that James Sr. was the father of 24 children, 12 to each wife.
There is a great deal of Jarrett genealogy on dif. family sketches in this book.

James Jarrett Sr.
His will written Jan. 19, 1821 Probated Greenbrier Co. July 1822 Names
Wife - Rosanna
Daughters (names 6 of them)- 1.Delilah Jarrett, 2.Aveline Jarrett, 3.Leah Graham, 4.Nancy Morriss, 5.Margaret Morriss, 6.Elizabeth Jones.
Sons(names 11 of them) - 1.Jacob Jarrett, 2.Morris Jarrett, 3.George Washington Jarrett, 4.James Madison Jarrett, 5.Vincent Jarrett, 6.William Jarrett, 7.James Jarrett, 8.David Jarrett, 9.Abraham Jarrett, 10.Owen Jarrett, 11.Isaac Jarrett(Note he names 2 dif. sons with the name of James in his will.)
That's a total of 17 children from the will it could be that several died young, before the death of James Sr.
will names son inlaw's - Benjamin Morris, Levi Morris, Wm. Jones.

And that's a whole lot of Jarrett's just from James Sr. populating the W.Va. mountains.
