Re: Two John A Jasper s in SC?
I recently found this link:
Robert Ivey has done an incredible job unraveling this mess! Lots of people on online data bases seem to quote each other, but no one has had documentation or reasoning to back up the Thomas and Sarah Taylor link. Will Robert Ivey located some very interesting details!
"Sergeant Jasper’s father, John, was not Irish; neither was he German as some contend. There are some genealogists who have identified John as the son of Thomas and Sarah Taylor Jasper from Richmond County, Virginia. This Jasper line is from Suffolk, England.

Thomas did have a son, John Jasper, listed in his will, but this son was born April 6, 1721, and died in Richmond County, Virginia, on September 3, 1764.
(RootsWeb’s WorldConnect Project: Rhonda Tink Albright—ID: P-339047610–John Jasper, son of Thomas.)"
What Robert posted to the Grindal Shoals Gazette is nothing short of amazing!!! The documentation blew me away, and I have been working on this line for decades! Bible records, Church records, Cemetery records, land records, pension records, war records, letters, a huge puzzle becoming more clear!
I am convinced that John Andrew Jasper did come from Carmarthen Wales, Wales. I do believe as my Kentucky relations have stated that he brought his infant son Abraham with him, who grew up to be a Tory. This John Andrew Jasper married to Mary Herrington in the US. I take family history legends to be truthful or at least a springboard to where to look, until proven otherwise. I believe the Tory son was born in Wales to a different mother, who may have died, and that John came to America, married a second wife "Mary Herrington" and raised a huge family in South Carolina. Still there is no evidence that John Andrew Jasper was married before in Wales. Just family tradition that he came to our shores with an infant son, Abraham.
I am sure if we continue to look, more will come to light!
