JENIS/DZIENIS -- IS ANYBODY OUT THERE?
I have been trying to trace my husband's family, without success. Our surname is JENIS; however the original spelling of this name was DZIENIS.My husband's grandfather, Frank Dzienis came to Minersville, PA in the early 1900's.At some point thereafter he married a Polish girl named Anna Namiotkiewicz, who was sent for by her brother to come to PA to marry Frank.
He worked in the mines in Schuylkill County and eventually they had several children.Frank and his wife Anna both died in the flu epidemic in about 1918 or 1919, and their children were placed in orphanages and eventually some of them were raised by relatives of their mother, Anna. I believe that is when their name was changed from Dzienis to Jenis.
I have not been able to find anything about Frank Dzienis at all.I would like to find out if he had brothers or sisters here in America and if there are other people with the name JENIS who might have further information on this family, either here or in Poland.I don't know if the parents of Frank Dzienis ever made it to America.I believe Frank entered this country through Ellis Island, but have not yet found anything else. His name and Anna's were placed on the Wall of Honor many years ago by a daughter.
I realize the name DZIENIS may have been subsequently spelled in other ways than JENIS, but thought I would start here.
If anyone happens to know of anybody, anywhere, particularly here in the U.S. who might be interested in helping me find any of my husband's grandfather's family, I would be most appreciative.
Thanks so much ...
