Zilpha Jernigan to Arthur Alford 1793

I've tracked back my ancestry to the union of Zilpha Jernigan to Arthur Alford.Apparently, they were divorced and Zilpha assumed her maiden name along with her son.It was kind of interesting that I really might have the wrong last name.I'd like to go back further in Zilpha's ancestry and I would like to know if there is any story behind the divorce.Divorces were very rare in the 1790's.
