Hi Nigel
Only just read your message as I haven't visited this site for ages. There were a lot of Jesse's in London at that time; my branch of the family were William (my great great grandad) who was born 1812 and married Hannah Matthews in 1832. They lived in the Stockwell/Brixton/Lambeth area.He was in the Metropolitan Police but eventually moved to Guernsey where he worked for a while before moving up to Liverpool with at least 1 or 2 sons - that was where my roots came from, I had no idea they were originally from London until I started researching.
His parents were David Jesse,a woolstapler, and Ann, I think they lived in the Camberwell area.I've not got back any further I'm afraid, its more difficuly pre-1837 as I'm sure you know.
Can't really connect with your family although I'm sure there is one somewhere down the line. Incidentally, through this family forum I did locate a distant cousin; my g.grandad and his g.g.grandad were brothers. We met up last year and it was great.
So keep persevering!
Sheila
