Re: Ancestry of Rebecca Bowen, wife of Peter Jett (died 1784)
William Clapham, the first husband of Mary Thatcher, died prior to March 4, 1695/96, when his will was proved in Richmond Co., VA. The will books for Richmond Co., VA from 1692 to 1698 are no longer extant, so even though William Clapham died testate, his will is no longer of record (these records were apparently missing prior to 1793). William's widow married Thomas Richardson prior to October 7, 1696. Given this timing for the second marriage of Mary Clapham nee Thatcher, the birth date ranges for the children of Stephen Bowen and his wife (post #1547), and the fact that the name William was given to one of Stephen's sons (but no surviving sons were named Thomas), supports the conclusion that Stephen Bowen's unnamed wife was probably a daughter of William Clapham and Mary Thatcher, not Thomas Richardson and Mary Thatcher.
